Lubes and Waxes

The first step in the manufacture of lubricants involves separating the individual fractions by viscosity and which have undesirable characteristics for the finished lubricant. These must be removed or converted by means of processes such as extraction, hydrodewaxing or hydrotreating.boiling range specifications. The raw lube oil fractions from most crude oils contain components .Undesirable characteristics include high pour points, high cloud points, large viscosity changes with temperature (low VI), poor oxygen stability, poor color, high organic acidity and high carbon and sludge forming tendencies. Clariant’s lube oil processing catalysts help the refiner to meet specifications with regard to these critical lube oil properties.
