Süd-Chemie has introduced the ShiftMax® 120 HCF catalyst, which addresses the environmental concerns of hexavalent chrome in a conventional HTS catalyst. ShiftMax® 120 HCF replaces the well established ShiftMax® 120 which has provided superior performance in the Ammonia and Hydrogen plants for more than 30 years. ShiftMax® 120 HCF complies with REACH regulations ensuring health and safety. It is virtually indistinguishable from ShiftMax® 120 after activation and offers the same high activity and physical robustness during operation.
The main advantages of Hexavalent Chrome Free catalysts :
- No leaching of Hexavalent Chrome in case of condensation during new catalyst start up. Hence, no yellow colour condensate seen during initial steam heating during start-up.
- Hexavalent Chromium content stays below the detectable limit, thus eliminating health and safety concerns during handling and commissioning.
- No special start-up is required to control the exothermic reaction of hexavalent chrome to trivalent chrome.
- Fully commercialized and already installed in several NH3 and H2 plants.
